Step 4: Deciding on a Grid
WHAT IS A GRID?
A grid is typically
an aluminum flat bar or profile which is crossed inside
an insulating unit to give a window a "divided lite"
colonial appearance. This is referred to as a grid
because of the equal boxes it creates.
TYPES OF GRIDS
Flat grids
are 5/8 inch in width and referred to as flat due their
smooth profile. Flat grids are the most economical grid
available.
Sculptured grids
are wider than flat grids at 1 and 1/16 inches in width.
Sculptured grids have a higher profile than a flat grid
as well as edge detail. Simulating a true divided lite
-- as seen in wood windows -- a sculptured grid gives a
higher-end look.
