Window Materials and the Environment

Heat

  • Wood Windows help block heat transfer through the frame -- and our fiberglass exterior withstands even brutal heat.

  • Vinyl Windows help block heat transfer through the frame and are tested at extreme temperatures for any sagging or deformation..

  • Thermal-break Aluminum windows -- block heat transfer better than than standard aluminum; frame can stand up to brutal temperatures.

  • Aluminum Windows -- frame withstands heat but heat moves quickly through the frame

Cold

  • Vinyl Windows -- for superior U-factors.

  • Wood Windows -- for superior U-factors.

  • Thermal-break Aluminum windows -- for good U-factors.

Blowing Rain / Wind

  • Vinyl Windows -- Commercially rated Vinyl II or Vinyl III can withstand up to 155 mph wind. Also passes AAMA test at 40 mph wind with 8" rain per hour.

  • Vinyl windows offer the ultimate in weather protection with welded corners and premium weatherstripping.

  • WoodClad Windows --. Commercially rated WoodClad can withstand up to 110 mph wind. Also passes AAMA test at 40 mph wind with 8" rain per hour. Hurricane Windows Florida

  • Thermally-broken aluminum windows -- rated to withstand up to 110 mph wind. Also passes AAMA test at 40 mph wind with 8" rain per hour.

Moisture

  • Vinyl Windows have a warmer frame surface which will help reduce the symptoms of condensation.

  • Wood Windows have a warmer frame surface which will help reduce the symptoms of condensation

Ultra Violet

  • Vinyl Windows -- Minimal degradation from UV.

  • Wood Windows -- Minimal degradation to exterior painted fiberglass from UV

  • Aluminum Windows -- Minimal degradation to exterior painted surface from UV -- no structural damage to aluminum or polyurethane thermal break.

  • Laminated Glass cuts 99% of the Sun’s UV rays

  • Low-E2 reduces UV by 84%

  • Low-E / Tint combinations reduces UV up to 81% (hard coat Low-E)

  • Bronze or Grey Tinted glass reduces UV by 68% (hard coat Low-E)

Sound Issues

  • Vinyl Windows -- hollows in vinyl frame help deaden sound.

  • WoodClad Windows -- hollows in pultrusion frame help deaden sound.

  • Air infiltration can affect the amount of sound that enters the home. The greater the air infiltration, the greater the amount of sound that can get through.
